Downfall
Last night, some of us IB nerds, went to see Downfall or Der Untergang a movie about Hitler's final days spent in an underground bunker in Berlin. The fact that it was in German with English subtitles made it a million times more authentic. I can only imagine how bad the same movie would be if it was in English. The movie is based on the book written by Joachim Fest.
The Russians are closing in on Berlin, and all hope is lost of Germany winning the war. It was quite funny in a way, to see Hitler's Generals sweat it out trying to tell their leader that there are no armies left. Hitler himself, being the stubborn physcopath that he is, refuses to hear any of it and will then come up with some 2 second miracle plan that will turn everything around and save the Third Reich. Idiot...
That actual story revolves more or less around Traudl Junge, a 22 year old woman from Munich, who is hired as Hitler personal secretary. She worked a total of three years for Hitler right until his end. The real Traudl died only three years ago from cancer.
This movie is special in that its setting is limited, both time and space wise. The story spans just three days and all the action occurs within the bunker. Hitler played by Bruno Ganz, is frighteningly realistic and he has many fits, just like the real Hitler.
I'm surprised the movie was only rated MA. Extensive goryness may be seen. On multiple occasions you'll see a surgeon frantically sawing off a limb or two and many people end up literally blowing their brains out. That's not including the whore of a Nazi who poisons all six of her own children. I was glad to see her body burn in the end.

So yea, I will just recommend this movie. It's definitely one of the best war movies I've ever seen. It's quite unique.
Sieg Heil!
Addition:Oh yea, the group consisted of: Ashwin, Ben, Josh, Patrick, Tom and I. Afterwards, Madame Davies and her partner emerged from the same movie! Quelle coincidence! We talked about the movie briefly and then said au revoir. We hit Hungry's after and then we hit the Tom mobile in which we hit EuroTrash on the way. I guess you could say we really hit it. Thanks for the lift Tom!
