We win again!
In the early hours of today, several screams errupted from the Roex residence and wild celebrations were had.
Netherlands 0 - 0 Sweden (Netherlands win 5-4 on penalties)
I was supposed to wake up at 4am as this is when the game would start. However my alarm didn't wake me and it was already 5 o'clock when I woke up. I rushed to the family room and switched on Foxtel and I was just in time to catch the second half. The scored was still nil all. My dad and my brother soon joined me. We sat in anticipation as many chances went both ways, but Holland dominated for most of the time. Full time and still no score. Extra time where the Silver goal rule applies. More chances, but no goals. There was only one way to get a winner, penalties.
Knowing we lost in penalty shootouts in the last three Euro championships ('92,'96,'00) and the 1998 World Cup, we weren't exactly hoping it would come to this. But it did. Fortunatly we broke the "tradition" and we won 5-4 after Edwin van de Sar (dutch goalkeeper)stopped a brilliant penalty. Gun striker Arjen Robben then took to the spot and put away a magical penalty to put Holland in the semis against Portugal.

Edwin van de Sar
Henrik Larsson and Edgar Davids
Ruud van Nistelrooy, once again man of the match
Netherlands celebrate a well deserved win
The fourth quarter final is played tomorrow, between Czech republic and Denmark. Then on Wednesday the semis start. Portugal will be very tough to beat, but the spirits are high and I haven't seen Holland play this well in a while. Keep it up Oranje!
